Employers have found that they can reach a much larger pool of applicants at
lower cost by using the Internet. As a result, the Internet has become the primary
driving forces in the recruitment world.
There
are many Internet job search sites. Some are large and generalized; others are smaller
and specialize in particular types of jobs.
In this section, you'll find approximately 50 job search sites you can explore
and consider for your own purposes.; Because there is recurring consolidation and
turnover in this field, the list has frequent changes. Please let us know if you
find that a link no longer works.
As you review the list of sites, consider those that have descriptions that are
similar to the job market you are interested in. It is a good idea to register with
as many job search sites as you can manage. Fairly quickly, you'll find out if they
are working OK for you. If not, you can always unregister and focus on those that
are.
As discussed in the Job Search eBook, there are several considerations to keep
in mind when using the Internet to help with your job search. Three key ingredients
are: 1) be sure your resume is clear and focused, 2) Remember that job search sites
use "key word searching" to find people with certain skills and experience so be
sure you include appropriate key words in your resume, and 3) Frequently update
your resume with the job search sites you use since employers often focus on resumes
that they consider "fresh."
In addition to the sites listed below, most organizations have some form of internal
job board for their open jobs. Usually, a quick search of an organization's website
will reveal whether they have an internal job board. If so, and if you are also
using general purpose job boards, be careful to avoid submitting multiple resumes
with a different focus to the same employer.
Links to Many Job Search Sites
Below is a listing of job search sites that list job openings. The first
section lists popular vertical search engines (aggregators) that provide you
with access to job openings listed on numerous job boards, including many of
those listed in the section below (see our
Job Aggregators page for more).
The remaining links are job boards that employers typically pay fees in order
for their jobs to be listed on those sites. This list is representative of job
boards available, however, we have no control over their content or terms of
use, hence we do not endorse any particular job search site listed.
Note: It is not uncommon for job search sites to merge or change web addresses.
We check these links on a periodic basis, however, you may find that one or more
of the links is no longer accurate or active.
